New Caledonia Film Festival

In 2021, the New Caledonia Film Festival returns to New Zealand in four cities: Christchurch, Dunedin, Palmerston North and Wellington.

A selection of six short films and two music videos of a total duration of two hours, all awarded at regional film festivals, will be offered to the Kiwi public showing several topics and issues occurring in the New Caledonia society and that many of our neighbors in the Pacific share.

Like its 1st edition in 2020, and for the sake of accessibility to both Francophiles and lovers of Oceanic creations, the selection will be screened in French and native Kanak languages, with English subtitles.

The key date chosen for this second edition is September 24, known since 2004 as the Citizenship Day in New Caledonia with the aim of celebrating “living together” around the indigenous people and for all the communities of the country.

Please note that although all short films are accessible to all audiences, guidance from a parent or guardian is recommended, and some films may be more suitable for mature audiences.

The festival is organized by the Delegation of New Caledonia to New Zealand, in partnership with AirCalin, New Caledonia Tourism, CREIPAC French Language School, the Association of Caledonian Fiction Producers (ACPF) and the network of New Zealand Alliances Françaises, with the support of the La Foa Film Festival.

The New Caledonia Film Festival aims to be perpetuated across the Pacific region and to become an annual meeting for fans of French-speaking Oceanian cinema and creations, including New Zealand, Vanuatu, Fiji, Papua New Guinea and Australia. The Delegations for New Caledonia in New Zealand, Fiji and Papua New Guinea organized in 2020 a screening of five award-winning New-caledonian short films. These events hosted nearly 350 people across the Pacific to discover authentic New Caledonia cinema.
